Anna using her experience in tourism to set up her own business
I have made my dream come true and founded my own start-up, supporting caravan parks, outdoor tourism companies and hotels. I develop tools and software that help them manage their activities, and build and design their websites that allow for a fully integrated customer experience and relation. The company is going quite well and I have been able to hire a part-time employee – Lena, a 25-year old woman who can do magic with website programming and is also a wiz at solving technical issues! I am very satisfied with the decision I took, I continue to develop myself as a professional by reading and following courses, tech as well as business related whenever I can. My own hobbies of hiking, caravanning and travelling allow me to touch base and put myself in the shoes of a tourist, and support my clients better. My goal is to continue to grow as a professional (incorporating more women in my tech business) and as a person.

I’m now 38-years-old. I have been working in the in the Hospitality Sector, where I moved from lower jobs up to middle management and where over the last years I have been in charge of all the ICT for the hotel and spa, both internal systems as well as the on-line activities. The Diploma I obtained in IT while working, greatly supported my progress within the company and helped me to reach my goals of reaching management levels more quickly. But hospitality has been hard it by the COVID pandemic, and on top of that the hotel was taken over by a large multinational leisure company who made changes which I was not feeling to comfortable with. I was already taking additional courses in ICT, in particular in the field of system design. During COVID I saw the struggles my child (and it friends and their teachers) had with everyone surrounding online learning, and that raised my interest. After researching and learning a lot, I decided it was time for a change and focus on making learning more accessible for all, I am now working for a company that develops learning platforms and online tools for educational institutions, focussing on how to design learning in such a way that it accessible for all students and easy to use for teachers.
