Maria is just finishing her secondary education, and has to decide, what to do next, study further and yes what level and what studies? She knows she wants to work in the tech sector, and in technology, but is in doubt what toi study. There are so many options open, and so many new jobs and jobs opportunities opening up that it is difficult to make a decision. She also has some doubts about being a girl in tech. She decides to do some research and see what jobs types fit her interests, she also will try and find women that work in the sector and talk to them or read about them. With this plan in mind she starts her journey towards becoming a tech professional.

Maria, a data analyst looking for new opportunities.
Maria has reached a new stage in her life, after careful consideration she decided to take some time off and focus on her personal life. Although she loved her job as a data analysts, she felt a need to advance and has taken some time off to reflect and think about the turn around she wants to make in her. She has used her sabbatical time to consider her options (and spent more time with her family). Based upon her current situation she is at a cross road and deciding whether to continue her career working in a tech related job but for a business or organisation in a non-tech sector as there is a great demand for tech trained employees, or to set up her own business (ideas she has a few).

Maria making sure data make “her” insurance company perform better
Maria is now working in an insurance company, where she supervises a small team of data analysts and is responsible for training the new hires on how to use data to improve the customer service while at the same time ensuring the competitiveness and growth of the insurance company. That is, she makes sure that everyone in the company gets the data needed to optimise the best insurance plan, and develop new products based upon market tendencies. Maria loves her job, and hopes to grow within the company and move up her career ladder.
Maria's data analytics consultancy is a success
After careful reflection of her own interests, capabilities and opportunities, Maria has decided that the best move for her is to start-up her own business. Over the years she has gained a lot of insight into the needs of companies and organisations for data analytics and when she was not employed, she used her time to get trained and gain a more profound insight into the area of data analytics and big data, and worked on her entrepreneurial skills. Her data analytics consultancy provides services to a wide range of SMEs who have a need for data, but do not want or can have their own data analytics department. Maria is very happy with this career choice, the business is going well, she has sufficient time for herself (after the first crazy years of starting the new business). As part of her corporate social responsibility she helps an NGO to analyse their impact and improve their fundraising activities. Her plans are to grow and in the future expand even internationally.
